World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can boost the value of weapons, armors and rings. They also boost extra bonuses, such as PvE damage and crit chance.

The cost for upgrading items increases when they reach the current level of the item. The cost increases with item's level.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be put into armor, weapons and trinkets to provide an extra stat boost or effect while they're in use. They can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors or trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be applied to equipment with a slot. The Best item upgrade must be at least upgraded to blue level before a component can be used. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once; they can't be used multiple times or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a particular type of upgrade component that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment as well as the non-ascended back items. Each level of item requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Some upgrades require a special ingredient to activate. This ingredient can be obtained by making Upgrade Recipes.
