WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade items increases item level by 3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a more value in trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrade upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the item Level Upgrade used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be visited anytime to upgrade items your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. Players can purchase them from NPCs of item upgraders in a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with a button, which will show a preview of the item at its next upgrade items level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and current item level, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item upgrader kit has been upgraded to a certain degree, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of getting an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with several new features added. The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

Players have a number of choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests based on the type of gear being upgraded.

The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it does bring some modifications to the upgrade process. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable modification is that crests have one purpose therefore it's essential to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance, it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the best equipment available and save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan on making.
