WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for those with lower requirements due to the need to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item, however they'll always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through item upgrader kit upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will show the item upgrading's next upgrade level, when there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For instance weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item Level upgrade is upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Many locations offer item upgraders in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only accessible through a variety means. This is both a benefit as well as an issue.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. When a player has an upgrade item to a particular level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading additional items to that level will cost less even when they are part of a different gear set.

Players can earn crests by finishing tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean engaging in outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in any difficulty to earn lower-level gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated, but the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once an item is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to get their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests wisely, as they only have one use. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the Best item upgrade gear you can locate and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The account-wide discount will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
